2024 Reading Year in Review
The cold, hard statistics of books I read this year.
Where do my stats come from?
Storygraph! It’s an alternative to Goodreads that I highly recommend. Stay tuned for a post about why I prefer Storygraph to Goodreads (the latter of which is owned by Amazon…).
Drumroll please ! ! !
26 / 36 books read…
…or 10,431 pages!
I’m hoping to squeeze in one or two more books before December wraps up, but they’ll be included in next year’s statistics.
I didn’t hit my goal (36), but I did manage to average two books per month, which I’m happy with! I’ve no idea how some people manage to read a hundreds of books, but consider me jealous.
On average, it took me 6 days per book. I don’t think this is the most accurate, as a few were in record time because their library return date was looming, whereas life interrupted others.
5 books DNFd
This year I tried to stop reading books that held no interest for me (because I have so many books I want to read). For some of them it was the style, some the pacing, and others, an inability to emotionally connect to the characters.
As you can see, I really didn’t make it far on book 2 — a whopping 1%. Immediately, I knew that although it was an extremely popular book, it just wasn’t for me.
The fact that I stopped at 60% on book 3 might drive some of you crazy. Something happened in the book that set it down a plot path and through many tropes I abhor. I wasn’t invested enough to know what happened in the end, so it went back to the library.

TBR Pile…
Books added to To-Read Pile = 100+
Books read from To-Read Pile = < 10 (most of the books I read I picked up because they looked interesting, disregarding the books on my list pleading to be read)

Additional stats
Pace refers to how readers thought a book was paced, not how quickly I read the book.
Page number refers to how many pages the book had and how many of each type I read.
A rollercoaster of reading…
It’s funny because I exactly remember why it slumped or spiked:
⟡ June spike - I had several books come in through the library
⟡ April slump - a readiness to finish my time contract in Germany and a longing to be home.
⟡ Recent slump - I’ve been in a crafting phase, hence the 0 books read.
I’m pretty proud of my hat and bookmark! (hat pattern from NichKnits, bookmark from EcoHomeDecor)
